This role partners closely with operations, engineering, quality, and leadership teams to design, implement, and continuously improve programs that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe and efficient production. The position offers the opportunity to shape safety culture, influence strategic initiatives, and provide hands-on support to day-to-day manufacturing activities in a high-tech, safety-first setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments throughout production operations.

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, chemical releases, hazardous exposures, and workplace injuries, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Evaluate chemical hazards and process risks, and develop exposure control strategies, safe operating practices, and engineering controls.

  • Support process safety initiatives, including participation in Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), HAZOP studies, Management of Change (MOC), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).

  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams on new equipment installations, operational changes, and process improvements to ensure safety is integrated into design and execution.

  • Develop, deliver, and maintain safety training programs, employee engagement initiatives, and safety communications that reinforce a strong safety culture.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, EPA, DEQ, RCRA, environmental regulations, air permitting requirements, and internal safety and environmental standards.

  • Interpret and apply Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical compatibility information, and regulatory requirements associated with hazardous substances and hazardous waste.

  • Track, analyze, and report key safety performance indicators, trends, and improvement initiatives to leadership.

  • Support emergency preparedness, spill response, and hazardous waste management programs, ensuring readiness and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide expert guidance on industrial hygiene practices, PPE selection, chemical exposure risks, and toxicology fundamentals.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to operational and engineering leaders on EHS matters, influencing both strategic decision-making and daily operations.

  • Promote collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence in all EHS activities while actively engaging employees in safety initiatives.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline.

  • At least 7 years of progressive EHS, occupational safety, or industrial safety experience within manufacturing, chemical processing, semiconductor, specialty chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industrial environments.

  • Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing operations, including bulk chemical handling, storage, transfer, and processing of hazardous materials.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).

  • Experience evaluating chemical hazards, process risks, exposure controls, and safe operating practices within production environments.

  • Ability to conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and participate in or support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.

  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, OSHA safety management systems, and regulatory compliance obligations related to workplace safety.

  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, engineering controls, PPE selection, and regulatory requirements related to chemical exposure.

  • Ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical compatibility data, and regulatory requirements associated with hazardous substances and hazardous waste.

  • Strong knowledge of chemical hazards, hazardous materials management, and industrial chemical processes.

  • Experience investigating incidents involving chemical releases, hazardous exposures, near misses, and process-related safety events.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical and regulatory information to diverse audiences.

  • Proven leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to drive safety culture and engage employees at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, specialty chemicals, semiconductor manufacturing, petrochemical operations, pharmaceutical production, or similar advanced manufacturing industries.

  • Experience leading environmental, health, and safety programs within chemical, semiconductor, specialty chemical, or advanced manufacturing facilities.

  • Experience conducting HAZOP studies, Management of Change (MOC), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).

  • Working knowledge of EPA, DEQ, RCRA, hazardous waste regulations, and air permitting requirements.

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH, OSHA 30-Hour, or HAZWOPER.

  • Commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

  • Interest in ongoing professional development and expanding expertise in high-purity specialty chemicals and advanced manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily within a very clean, organized, and quiet manufacturing facility that supports high-purity specialty chemical production for advanced industries such as semiconductors and technology. The operation involves distributing chemicals, including acids, ammonia hydroxide, and reagents, in 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes through a down-packing process, where smaller containers are filled from large onsite storage tanks. Chemicals are stored and routed via automation, complex piping systems, and conveyor systems designed to minimize risk and prevent direct chemical contact. The environment is safety-first, with regular facility walkthroughs, safety audits, and hands-on support of manufacturing activities alongside production personnel, engineering teams, and operational leadership. Full PPE is always required on the production floor, including safety-toed shoes and safety glasses, reflecting the facilitys strong focus on personal protection and safe work practices. Team members work in a high-tech setting with robust safety programs, and benefit from opportunities to further develop their knowledge and skills, comprehensive benefits including generous time off and paid holidays, rich medical and dental coverage, job-focused tuition and education reimbursement, and career-long growth opportunities within a dynamic, high-impact environment where their contributions are highly valued.
