Job description

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER (STARSHIELD)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  2. Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
  3. Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
  4. Understand and implement machine guarding where needed.
  5. Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees.
  6. Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  7. Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits.
  8. Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures.
  9. Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.).
  10. Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  11. Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management.
  12. Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
  13. Conduct and monitor the NPDES and other discharge permits/plans.
  14. Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD.
  15. Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA.
  16. Maintain compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. 3+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering.
  2. Experience in both environmental and safety fields.
  3. Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with storm water regulations.
  4. Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with the CEQA regulations.
  5. Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  6. Strong organizational and communication skills.
  7. Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
  8. Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water.
  9. Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  10. Passion for advancing the commercial and National Security space industry.
  11. Ability and willingness to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area.
  2. An active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing.
  3. Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
EHS Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
EHS Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
