Cross Resource Group seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for a Tucson site to strengthen safety programs, resolve hazards, and drive corrective actions.

The role requires 3+ years of hands-on EHS experience in high-hazard environments, strong regulatory knowledge, and ability to train employees onsite. It is a contract position with ~6 months duration and onsite work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent EHS experience; advanced degree preferred.
• At least three years of hands-on safety experience in high-hazard environments.
• Working knowledge of occupational-safety regulations and practical controls.
• Ability to work onsite in Tucson and support local travel as needed.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

Environmental Health & Safety Engineer

We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support a large, highly regulated engineering and manufacturing site. This person will partner with engineering, operations, facilities, and site leadership to strengthen safety programs, resolve workplace hazards, investigate incidents, and maintain audit-ready compliance.

The best fit has at least three years of hands-on safety experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, industrial operations, mining, utilities, or another high-hazard environment. The role calls for someone who can work comfortably on the floor, translate regulations into practical controls, train employees, and drive corrective actions through completion.

Schedule: First shift, 9/80A schedule; 40 hours per week

Work Setting: Onsite

Role Type: Contract

Contract Duration: Initial contract of approximately six months

Contract Classification: All approved hours are budgeted at straight time; no premium overtime is authorized

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with engineering, operations, facilities, and business partners to resolve EHS concerns involving work areas, equipment, and employee practices.
• Support contractor safety, confined-space entry, job hazard assessments, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, fall protection, machine guarding, powered industrial vehicles, cranes and hoists, fire and life safety, ergonomics, and training programs.
• Maintain EHS policies and documentation in alignment with company requirements and applicable regulations.
• Conduct inspections, identify compliance gaps, recommend practical controls, and track corrective actions to closure.
• Serve as EHS representative for assigned buildings, operating groups, and functional safety councils.
• Lead injury and incident investigations, perform root-cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and deliver instructor-led safety training.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives that improve employee and contractor safety.
• Support internal and external audits, including ADOSH VPP preparation and company assessments.
• Use EHS databases and information systems to maintain records and communicate program performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience plus at least three years of applicable EHS experience; or a related advanced degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
• At least three years of hands-on safety experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, operations, facilities, construction, mining, utilities, or another industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of occupational-safety regulations and practical workplace controls.
• Experience conducting inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Ability to work onsite in Tucson and support local travel as needed.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace, defense, government-contracting, advanced-manufacturing, or similarly regulated experience.
• Experience diagnosing complex EHS issues and implementing practical controls.
• ADOSH VPP, OSHA VPP, ISO 45001, or comparable audit preparation experience.
• Experience with incident-management, audit, training, or compliance databases.
• Certified Safety Professional or Associate Safety Professional credential.
