Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for construction projects in the Atlanta area. The EH&S Engineer will support various projects with a broad range of technical and managerial responsibilities to enhance safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include site inspections, incident investigations, and evaluating planning permits for effective mitigation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety is required.
• Recognized Safety Professional Certification preferred.
• BCSP (GSP or ASP) certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify hazardous conditions and verify corrective actions.
• Support incident investigations including data collection, photography and documentation.
• Evaluate permits and plans (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection) for safe mitigation.
• Apply Industrial Hygiene principles in hearing conservation, silica, asbestos, lead work, etc.
• Understand fire protection and proper storage of flammable materials.
• Maintain working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Adapt duties based on site needs and safety/field management.

Seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for construction projects.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) provides construction management services to numerous clients in a multitude of business sectors, throughout the United States. WT Business Offices have delivered successful construction projects in healthcare, higher education, laboratories, business offices, manufacturing, retail development, food processing and warehouse development. Construction activities are unlimited and require the EH&S Engineer to have a broad range of technical and managerial expertise.

Minimum candidate Accreditations

• Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Health and Safety Related field

• Recognized Safety Professional Certification (examples)

• BCSP (GSP or ASP)

Successful candidates must demonstrate the following experience and/or capabilities:

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify, document and recommend mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions and verify correction actions have been completed.
• Support incidents investigations to include interviews, data compilation, photographs and completing proper documentation.
• Evaluate various planning/permits such as: Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, Pre-cast Tilt-Up as examples for effective and appropriate mitigation techniques.
• Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques involved in Hearing conservation, Lasers, Silica, Asbestos, Lead work, as examples.
• Understanding of fire protection, flammable/combustible materials storage/management.
• Working knowledge of OSHA Regulations
• The preceding experience and capabilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. Working Conditions

• Work is conducted in both indoor office settings, and outdoor constructions jobsite settings requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending.
• Work hours will be determined at the Project or work assignment basis.
• Noise level varies based on location.
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
• Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
