Our Rancho Dominguez facility is a state-of-the-art 120,000 sq. ft. headquarters dedicated to processing and distributing premium seafood products.
Position Summary - The EHS Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the company. This role will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, promote a safe and healthy workplace, and drive a culture of safety awareness
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Corporate Manager, Safety, Security & Loss Prevention in developing and implementing EHS policies and procedures.
- Perform activities necessary to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all corporate, local, state and federal EHS regulations.
- Oversees audits, hazard analysis, and management of change, ensuring documentation and timely completion of audit recommendations.
- Writes material for new safety programs; reviews, evaluates, and modifies existing and proposed programs; recommends appropriate changes.
- Handles employee injuries and claim end-to-end by issuing documents, clinic authorizations, taking reports from the clinic, coordinating modified duties, filing first notice of loss, and responding to adjusters’ questions.
- Prepares and distributes safety program aids such as instructional material, handouts, evaluation forms, and visual aids; sets up audiovisual equipment and makes presentations when necessary.
- Interact with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain and update safety training programs,
- Conduct safety training sessions (forklift, etc.) and quarterly safety committee meetings.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Collaborate with management to maintain emergency response plans.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of safety data and incidents.
- Promote a culture of safety through communication, training, and proactive initiatives.
- Responsible for safety training, coordination, and distribution of all weekly safety training topics for all employees.
- Successfully deliver continuous improvement for the company for the following metrics: Lost Time Incident; OSHA recordables; First Aid and Near Misses.
- Provide EHS training and new hires employees.
- Ensure safety inspections are completed and track corrective actions to completion.
- Responsible for surveys, safety committees and proper record keeping of all safety events.
- Train managers/supervisors and leads on site.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Manager, EHS.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- This role is based at the Rancho Dominguez facility and may require occasional overnight travel to other locations in the U.S.
- Frequent exposure to a food production environment, including wet, cold, and humid conditions.
- Ability to work in cold storage areas for extended periods with appropriate PPE.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with hazardous chemicals following safety protocols.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety shoes, gloves, and protective eyewear.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in a food processing or FDA regulated industry setting.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in EHS (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, CSP, or similar) is a plus
