Job description

Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet.

About the Role

As Apex continues to expand its satellite manufacturing footprint, we are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support and facilitate Apex EHS programs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, supports and champions EHS systems daily, driving risk reduction across operations. This position is within an existing EHS team, partnering closely with Operations, Production, and Facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of environmental compliance processes for South Coast AQMD permitting, emissions controls, and recordkeeping.

  • Support CUPA programs including Hazardous Materials Business Plans, hazardous waste management, universal waste, and SPCC applicability.

  • Sustain core EHS programs including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, machine safety, ergonomics, PPE, contractor safety, and incident response.

  • Participate in continuous improvement related to sustainability performance, waste minimization initiatives aligned with corporate and site goals, and environmental metrics.

  • Support environmental monitoring programs, including air, water, wastewater, and waste characterizations, as required.

Safety Programs

  • Participate in and assist in investigations and root cause analysis for injuries, near misses, spills, and property damage events, under the direction of the Facilities/EHS Department Leadership.

  • Help gather and document findings to support corrective action recommendations.

  • Support the review of site Process Hazard Analysis’ (PHAs) and audit processes to identify hazards and drive mitigation.

  • Facilitate Safety Committee implementation, engagement and support safety culture initiatives across departments.

  • Support daily operational safety expectations in coordination with Operations and Facilities teams, including PPE readiness, eyewash checks, extinguisher verifications, and general floor-level observations.

  • Assist the EHS team in verifying readiness of emergency equipment, signage, and response procedures across the site.

  • Provide and/or coordinate specialized training such as first aid, CPR/AED, spill response fundamentals, and emergency drill participation as required.

California Regulatory Compliance (Cal/OSHA)

  • Support Cal/OSHA Title 8 programs including but not limited to the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Heat Illness Prevention, Ergonomics, and Hazard Communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
