Job summary

Ceres Environmental Operations seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Associate I to support field operations, ensuring compliance with company safety programs and client requirements. This role reports to senior safety leadership and projects management to implement safety plans and train teams.

You will identify hazards, promote safe work practices, and ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, asbestos, and related regulations across multiple sites with travel to project locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 5+ years of experience in occupational health and safety, construction safety, environmental services, demolition, asbestos abatement, disaster response, or related industries.
• OSHA 30 Certification and HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
• Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, asbestos, and safety regulations.
• Experience conducting inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
• Familiarity with respiratory protection programs, air monitoring, and exposure assessment practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic safety reporting systems.

What We Are Looking For

Ceres Environmental Operations seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Associate I to support field operations and ensure compliance with company safety programs, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, local, Tribal, OSHA, EPA, and asbestos regulations. This role works under the direction of senior safety leadership and project management to implement established safety plans, monitor field compliance, conduct inspections, deliver training, and support incident investigations.

The EHS Associate I serves as a field resource for employees, subcontractors, and project teams by helping identify hazards, promoting safe work practices, and ensuring work is performed in compliance with applicable safety requirements. Success in this role will be measured through effective field presence, timely hazard identification, regulatory compliance, injury prevention, quality documentation, and support of a positive safety culture across operational and project sites.

What You Will Do

• Implement and enforce company health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and client-specific requirements established by corporate and project leadership.
• Conduct routine field safety inspections, audits, and worksite evaluations to identify hazards and verify compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.
• Monitor employee and subcontractor compliance with safety requirements, safe work practices, and PPE standards.
• Perform field observations and provide coaching to employees regarding safe work practices and hazard recognition.
• Participate in job hazard analyses and provide recommendations for hazard mitigation and corrective actions.
• Support accident, incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations and assist with corrective action follow-up.
• Prepare safety inspection reports, incident documentation, corrective action tracking logs, and regulatory records.
• Deliver and document employee orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project-specific training.
• Assist project management and operations teams with implementation of client safety requirements and site-specific safety plans.
• Monitor demolition, debris management, environmental remediation, construction, and disaster recovery activities for safe work practices.
• Support asbestos abatement and environmental remediation projects by monitoring field activities, verifying regulatory compliance, maintaining required documentation, and assisting with exposure control measures.
• Conduct or support air monitoring, exposure assessments, and industrial hygiene sampling activities when required.
• Verify proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment, respiratory protection equipment, and emergency response resources.
• Respond to employee safety concerns and communicate findings and recommendations to project leadership.
• Support emergency response and disaster recovery operations, including deployment to project sites as needed.
• Maintain working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, asbestos, and other applicable federal, state, local, Tribal, and client safety requirements.
• Promote a positive and proactive safety culture through visible field leadership and employee engagement.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
• 5 or more years of experience in occupational health and safety, construction safety, environmental services, demolition, asbestos abatement, disaster response, or related industries.

• AHERA Building Inspector Certification.
• AHERA Management Planner Certification.
• Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Certification.
• Certified Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST).
• Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST).
• Experience supporting asbestos abatement, demolition, environmental remediation, federal contracts, or disaster recovery operations.
• Experience conducting air monitoring and industrial hygiene sampling.
• EM-385-1-1 Certification.
• Experience working with Tribal Nations and knowledge of Tribal safety regulations.
• Bilingual language skills.

What to Expect

This role is primarily field-based and focused on supporting project teams through safety compliance monitoring, inspections, training, and hazard recognition activities. The EHS Associate I routinely travels to project locations, construction sites, debris management operations, environmental remediation projects, asbestos abatement projects, and disaster recovery sites to monitor safety performance and assist operations in maintaining compliance with applicable requirements.

The work environment is fast-paced and often involves changing priorities, emergency response activities, and coordination with multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time in the field conducting inspections, documenting observations, supporting investigations, delivering training, and assisting project teams with implementation of established safety requirements. Travel, extended work hours, and occasional emergency deployments may be required depending on operational needs.

Physical Requirements and Environment

• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and traverse active project sites for extended periods.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Willingness to wear PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toed boots.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, elevated spaces, confined spaces, construction environments, asbestos abatement projects, and disaster-affected areas.
• Ability to travel extensively to project sites and operational locations.
• Exposure to mechanical equipment, airborne particles, noise, vibration, and other field hazards.
