Astro Pak provides services to over 15 sectors including: Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, Semiconductor, and other selected Industrial markets. The company, founded in 1959, has performed on-site precision chemical cleaning in every State of the Union as well as several projects in Asia, continental Europe, England, Ireland and Mexico.

    Position Opportunity
    The Environmental, Health Safety & Regulatory Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving Astro Pak’s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs in a manner that reduces risk, prevents incidents and complies with external regulatory requirements to provide a safe and secure work environment. This position provides strategic leadership of environmental, health and safety risks and regulations within our diverse services, industries, and facility locations.

    Essential Duties / Responsibilities

    • Reduce exposure to EH&S liability in region through effectively identifying potential risks and regulatory requirements.
    • Partner with EHS&R tam to develop comprehensive, clear, Behavior-Based EH&S programs, policies and procedures that empower employees and integrate with training, auditing, and operations.
    • Partner with operations to achieve compliance at each regional location with all applicable Astro Pak, federal, state and local Environmental Health and Safety regulations (EPA, DOT, OSHA, etc).
    • Identify non-compliance and/or potential areas of exposure and implement timely corrective actions.
    • Perform regular EH&S audits to ensure compliance and accountability.
    • Manage locations required environmental permits, including renewal dates, within region.
    • Direct procedures, permitting and compliance for hazardous waste (Small Quantity Generators and Large Quantity Generators), air permitting, water pollution control, and community right-to-know programs.
    • Lead immediate intervention and investigation of all EH&S related incidents; Provide on-site tactical response and crisis management for EH&S related incidents.
    • Partner and communicate with HR to initiate Worker’s Compensation cases by providing all pertinent incident reports and notes in a timely manner.
    • Partner with and give guidance to location managers in managing Astro Pak’s return to work program.
    • Assist Organizational Development in developing and administering meaningful and behavior based Environmental Health and Safety training.
    • Assist EHS&R Training & Compliance with customer pre-qualifications and customer safety relations.
    • Partner with other EHS&R Managers and Coordinators to manage company-wide EH&S records, key performance indicators (KPIs), administration, databases, reporting and communications (Flash Reports, Incident Reports, 10-minute safety talks, training materials, Site-Specific Safety Plans, OSHA Logs, PPE Vendors, ISNet World, PICS).
    • Partner with operational leaders to develop relationships, participate in Balanced Scorecard meetings
    • Proactively model Astro Pak’s vision, mission, values, and desired culture to employees.
    • Analyze and manage data and projects in compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.

    Qualifications

    Education/Training/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Environmental Sciences required. Master’s degree a plus. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred; OSHA 501 General Industry OSHA Outreach Trainer Certified, Hazwoper, Confined Space and Forklift Operation Certifications preferred. Internal Auditor Certificates (AS9100:2009 Rev. C; ISO 9001:2008) a plus.

    Related Experience: 7-10 years of experience in management of environmental and industrial monitoring with multi-site understanding. Preferably 3-5 years of experience within the chemical, pharmaceutical or related industries. Experience with governmental agencies, compliance and regulations (EPA, DOT, OSHA, etc). Strong EHS Program and System development experience is a plus.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement an effective EH&S program in multiple states.
    • Proven leadership skills in working collaboratively with teams and influencing those beyond a formal reporting relationship.
    • Ability to interact across all levels of the company
    • Strong detail-orentation and accuracy, organization and time management.
    • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Suite (including Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook), with expert level knowledge of CRM software strongly preferred.
    • Legal capacity to comply with federally mandated requirements of the U.S. Export Control Laws.

    License: Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

    Travel: Must be willing and able to travel overnight stays, weekends and holidays by land and/or air up to 30% of the time.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
