Responsibilities
- You will participate as a team member on the OSHA Outreach Programs on-site audits, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), and Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).
- You will evaluate safety systems and provide assistance with the development or enhancement of systems for OSHA VPP.
- You will conduct scheduled safety consultation visits at general industry and/or construction sites to detect hazards and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- You will submit written consultation reports, document alleged hazards, and formulate recommendations for corrective action to be completed within set time frames.
- You will participate in the planning and execution of regional events and conferences to include training and assistance to the Outreach program, State safety conference, and any other OSHA-related event.
- You may serve as a team leader on complex consultation visits.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
- A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in occupational safety and health programs.
- Thorough knowledge of industrial processes and equipment in a variety of light and heavy industries.
- Knowledge of applicable State health standards, safety and health hazards, guarding techniques and methods, practices and equipment used to correct unsafe conditions involving machine operations, building construction and unsanitary working conditions in chemical plants, foundries, paper mills, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of field-testing equipment.
- Ability to work with computers, systems, and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to make presentations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
- Ability to make decisions and interpret State rules and regulations.
Other Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
- Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
- May require extended periods of driving, sitting, and visiting facilities that are non-ADA compliant.
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders and stairs.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain.
- Ability to determine and identify hazards in the work environment.
- Ability to stoop/kneel and crouch.
- Weekly travel with frequent overnight stays. May be required to pass a medical clearance and fit test for respirator use.
