Job summary

The City of Forney is seeking a Health Inspector to uphold public health standards across food establishments, pools, vector control, and sanitation. Under general supervision, you will perform inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions to prevent foodborne illness and other health hazards in the community.

You will review plans, conduct testing, educate stakeholders, and prepare enforcement reports.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester hours in basic or applied science, environmental health, public health, biology, chemistry, food science, or closely related field.
• Two years of experience in environmental health, consumer health, or related field is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspections of food establishments and other regulated facilities to ensure compliance with health codes.
• Investigates complaints related to food safety, sanitation, and public health concerns.
• Performs follow-up inspections to verify corrective actions and continued compliance.
• Reviews plans for new or remodeled facilities and provides comments on health code compliance.
• Performs field testing and sampling, including water quality and temperature checks.
• Assists with vector control activities and reporting.
• Investigates suspected foodborne illness outbreaks in coordination with authorities.
• Educates operators, employees, and the public on food safety and health regulations.
• Issues notices of violation and enforcement documents as required.
• Maintains inspection records and related documentation.
