Job summary

Nassau Candy is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety programs across our New York manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution facilities.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that promote a safe work environment, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce workplace injuries, and strengthen safety practices throughout the organization. Travel between NY facilities is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and New York State workplace safety requirements.
• Experience developing and delivering safety training to hourly employees, supervisors and managers.
• Experience with workers’ compensation reporting, claim submissions, workplace injury investigations, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience maintaining OSHA logs and required safety documentation.
• Ability to regularly travel between Nassau Candy’s New York facilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage EHS programs across Nassau Candy’s New York manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and office locations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NYS DEC, DOT, and other applicable requirements.
• Develop, implement, maintain, and update Company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
• Conduct routine facility inspections and safety audits and identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, equipment, and work practices.
• Develop corrective-action plans and work with department leadership to ensure identified issues are addressed timely.
• Maintain required EHS records, permits, logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
• Coordinate and participate in regulatory inspections and respond to safety and environmental compliance matters.
• Stay current on changes to applicable safety and environmental regulations and recommend changes to Company practices as necessary.
• Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and other safety incidents.
• Conduct root-cause investigations and identify appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Coordinate with Human Resources, supervisors, insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators regarding workers’ compensation claims and investigations.
• Partner with Human Resources and Operations on return-to-work and modified-duty opportunities when appropriate.
• Analyze injury and workers’ compensation trends to identify recurring issues and opportunities to reduce injuries and claims.
• Maintain OSHA 300, 301, and 300A records and complete required OSHA reporting.
• Develop and conduct safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers.

Position Summary

Nassau Candy is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety programs across our New York manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution facilities.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that promote a safe work environment, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce workplace injuries, and strengthen safety practices throughout the organization. This position will work closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Facilities, Human Resources, Quality, and site leadership to identify risks and implement practical solutions.

The EHS Manager will also be responsible for workplace accident and injury investigations, workers’ compensation reporting and claim submissions, OSHA recordkeeping, and identifying trends and corrective actions to reduce workplace injuries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage EHS programs across Nassau Candy’s New York manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and office locations.

Workplace Injuries and Workers’ Compensation

Prepare and submit workers’ compensation claims and required supporting documentation.

Coordinate with Human Resources, supervisors, insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators regarding workers’ compensation claims and investigations.

Monitor open claims and assist with obtaining documentation and information necessary for claim management.

Partner with Human Resources and Operations on return-to-work and modified-duty opportunities when appropriate.

Safety Training

Develop and conduct safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers.

Coordinate new-hire safety orientation and required annual and job-specific safety training.

Provide supervisors and managers with guidance regarding their responsibilities for maintaining a safe work environment.

Partner with Human Resources to track required training and maintain appropriate documentation.

Reinforce employee accountability for following established safety procedures and work practices.

Coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety awareness initiatives.

Risk Management and Injury Prevention

Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and ergonomic evaluations.

Review work processes, equipment, and employee practices to identify potential hazards.

Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Engineering on machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE, material handling, ergonomics, and other workplace safety programs.

Recommend equipment, process, procedural, or training changes to reduce workplace risk.

Track and report safety metrics, including workplace injuries, lost-time incidents, workers’ compensation claims, training completion, and corrective-action status.

Oversee proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals, waste, hazardous materials, and other regulated materials.

Maintain required environmental records, permits, and documentation.

Coordinate environmental reporting and compliance activities.

Support recycling, waste reduction, and other environmental initiatives.

Maintain Emergency Action Plans and evacuation and emergency response procedures for New York facilities.

Coordinate fire drills, evacuation exercises, and other emergency preparedness activities.

Ensure emergency and safety equipment is properly maintained and inspected.

Coordinate with Facilities, Operations, and local emergency authorities as necessary.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.

5–8 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably within manufacturing, food production, warehousing, or distribution.

Experience managing safety programs across multiple facilities preferred.

Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and New York State workplace safety requirements.

Experience with workers’ compensation reporting, claim submissions, workplace injury investigations, and root-cause analysis.

Experience maintaining OSHA logs and required safety documentation.

Experience developing and delivering safety training to hourly employees, supervisors, and managers.

Strong investigative, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively with employees and management at all levels of the organization.

Ability to regularly travel between Nassau Candy’s New York facilities.

Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

CSP, ASP, OSHA, or other relevant safety certification is a plus.

Ability to occasionally bend, climb, reach, and access equipment or work areas as necessary to conduct safety inspections and investigations.

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while in designated areas.

Regular travel between Nassau Candy’s New York facilities is required.
