Position Overview

We are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Lead who is a hands-on safety champion who brings energy, creativity, and practical leadership to Hazelett's environmental, health and safety programs. This individual will engage employees and managers, strengthen shared accountability, and develop effective safety solutions that support manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams while keeping employee safety at the forefront.

What You Will Do

Safety Leadership, Culture, and Engagement

• Build strong relationships with employees and managers by maintaining a visible, approachable presence throughout the facility and encouraging open communication about safety concerns and ideas.
• Develop creative safety campaigns, recognition programs, contests, demonstrations, and interactive events that make safety engaging, memorable, and relevant.
• Encourage employees to participate in safety committees, report hazards and near misses, recommend improvements, and take ownership of safety within their work areas.

Proactive Training and Education

• Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on safety training, Toolbox Talks, demonstrations, and visual resources that connect safety expectations to employees' daily work.
• Partner with supervisors, employees, and subject-matter experts to create department-specific training based on actual equipment, processes, workplace observations, and emerging risks.
• Evaluate whether training is understood and applied through employee feedback, observations, knowledge checks, and follow-up coaching.

Incident Learning and Prevention

• Lead fact-based investigations of incidents and near misses, evaluating work methods, equipment, training, procedures, communication, and other contributing factors to identify meaningful root causes.
• Engage employees, supervisors, and subject-matter experts in developing practical corrective actions, and follow through to confirm improvements are completed and effective.
• Turn incidents and near misses into constructive learning opportunities through targeted training, Toolbox Talks, safety communications, and shared lessons that help prevent similar events.

Operational Partnership and Problem-Solving

• Track, analyze, and report EHS metrics, trends, audit findings, and corrective action progress to leadership.
• Support capital projects, equipment changes, and process improvements by reviewing EHS risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
• Partner with production leaders and employees to develop practical, sustainable solutions that protect employees while supporting efficient manufacturing operations.
• Proactively identify risks through workplace observations, employee feedback, job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and reviews of new or modified equipment and processes.
• Use safety data and workplace trends to prioritize improvement opportunities, develop strategic action plans, and measure whether solutions achieve lasting results.

Compliance And Program Management

• Serve as the primary EHS resource for developing, maintaining, and supporting safety plans, policies, procedures, records, and reports, partnering with leadership and operational teams to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state, local, and company EHS requirements, including required reporting, recordkeeping, inspections, and corrective actions.
• Manage environmental programs such as hazardous waste, air, water, chemical handling, spill prevention, and emergency response planning.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspections, audits, and external EHS-related communications.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or process-focused role is required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate safety expectations, recommendations, and technical information to employees and leaders at all levels.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing needs and effectively manage multiple responsibilities, projects, and deadlines.
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to coordinate work, build collaborative relationships, influence others, and coach or mentor employees as needed.
• Ability to plan, facilitate, and deliver engaging in-person training for employees with varying levels of experience and technical knowledge.
• Creative approach to employee engagement, safety communications, recognition programs, and awareness campaigns.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify systemic causes and develop realistic long-term solutions.
• Ability to influence others, gain participation, and move initiatives forward without relying solely on authority or enforcement.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in an environmental health and safety discipline or equivalent education.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy equipment environment.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and related state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.

The base pay range for this full-time position is $80,000–$108,000. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. In addition, our ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
