Job Summary

WuXi Biologics is seeking a detail‑oriented EHS Summer Intern to support the daily operational and administrative functions of the EHS Department. This role is pivotal in managing the documentation, reporting, and field‑level compliance required for a large‑scale biologics manufacturing site. You will gain exposure to full‑spectrum EHS management, from environmental permitting to occupational health record‑keeping.

Responsibilities
  • Waste Stream Oversight: Manage daily activities in the hazardous waste storage area, ensuring proper segregation of regulated (RCRA) and non‑regulated waste streams.
  • Manifests & Records: Organize and file hazardous waste manifests and shipping documents to ensure NJDEP audit readiness.
  • Safety & Emergency Response
  • High‑Risk Programs: Support the administrative side of the LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) program by updating equipment‑specific procedures and managing the permitting process for hot work and confined spaces.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Assist in spill response equipment inspections and the maintenance of site‑wide Emergency Response plans.
  • Hazard Communication: Update and maintain the site SDS (Safety Data Sheets) library and ensure secondary container labelling complies with Hazcomm standards.
  • Occupational Health & Incident Management
  • Gensuite/Software Management: Log safety observations and support Incident Management workflows within Gensuite, tracking CAPAs through to completion.
  • Health Records: Maintain organized files for Employee Exposure Records, Medical Surveillance, and Respiratory Protection fit‑test results.
  • Program Support: Coordinate the scheduling of medical evaluations and hearing conservation screenings.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications
  • Education: Pursuing a degree in EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Administrative Strength: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn EHS software (Gensuite, Master Control, Maximo).
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of the distinction between hazardous and non‑hazardous waste; basic knowledge of incident investigation.
  • Reliability: Ability to manage Medical Records with strict confidentiality and high attention to detail.
  • Skills: Strong problem‑solving and interpersonal skills with dynamic cross‑functional teams. Must work in a self‑motivated, multi‑tasking, highly flexible, well‑organized and detail‑oriented style. Proficient in MS Office products, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Additionally: Must be able to work in a lab setting with biohazards / various chemicals. Must wear appropriate PPE, tolerate variable noise levels. Ability to stand / sit / walk for long periods. Must be able to lift 35 pounds.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $20-$30hr based on education level.
