Overview

Job Summary:

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator will focus on risk reduction, injury prevention and drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts enhancing the overall safety culture. The individual will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with site leadership to drive towards best-in-class performance. This position will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal, industry and consensus standards, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection, occupational health, and safety.
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Emergency Response: Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures to handle incidents such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters.
  • Training and Education: Skill in designing and delivering training programs to educate employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey EHS policies, procedures, and requirements to employees, management, and regulatory agencies.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze safety data, incident reports, and inspection findings to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in conducting safety inspections, audits, and investigations to ensure compliance and identify potential risks.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to assess complex situations, troubleshoot issues, and develop innovative solutions to enhance workplace safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, build relationships with stakeholders, and influence others to prioritize safety and compliance.
  • Project Management: Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize activities, and coordinate EHS initiatives within established timelines and budgets.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of environmental management systems, occupational health standards, industrial hygiene principles, and relevant engineering principles.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational priorities while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Leadership: Capacity to lead by example, inspire a culture of safety, and foster accountability for EHS performance at all levels of the organization.
  • Ethical Conduct: Commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting responsible environmental stewardship in alignment with organizational values and objectives.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in using EHS management software, databases, and other digital tools for data management, reporting, and analysis.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work. Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Experience

  • ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other professional certification preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience working in a position with responsibility for safety programs preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and training.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to be self-directed and complete work with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Applied knowledge in health and safety disciplines including Hazard Communication, LOTO (Lock out tag out), Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Ergonomics, Behavioral Based Safety, Machine Guarding and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 and 14001 standards.

Environmental Hazards

Physical

  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
