Job summary

Environmental Testing & Consulting, Inc (The ETC Group) seeks individuals to help protect families by performing environmental sampling and hazard inspections across Michigan. You will collect samples, analyze data, and participate in field investigations while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, and reliable transportation to travel to various job sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; BS in Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Science preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication, and ability to work in teams and independently.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and ability to travel within Michigan.
• Accurate documentation, time management, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect air, dust, soil, water and other material samples at client sites.
• Conduct hazardous materials inspections including lead-based paint sampling.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret environmental data.
• Investigate and evaluate health and safety conditions at locations.
• Complete and submit daily field reports with accuracy.
• Operate field equipment independently and safely.
• Perform related field and office tasks as needed.
• Ensure safe work practices on all projects.

• Collect air, dust, soil, water and/or other building material samples.
• Conduct hazardous materials inspections including sampling for lead-based paint and other regulated materials.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data.
• Investigate, measure, and evaluate environmental and health and safety conditions at client locations.
• Complete and submit accurate Daily Field Reports.
• Independently operate relevant field equipment.
• Perform other field and office tasks as necessary.
• Ensure safe work practices on all project work.

Protect families from the dangers of lead exposure.

Other Requirements

• Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be able to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians.
• Accuracy, dependability and strong organizational skills.
• Exceptional time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, and have ability to work in a team environment.
• Computer skills required.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to and conduct field work at job sites throughout Michigan.

Education

Minimum of a high school diploma / or equivalent. BS in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or other related field preferred

Training / Certification / Registration

• Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor/EBL Investigator Certifications preferred: must be able to obtain within 6 months.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Wet or humid or colder conditions may be encountered in some properties.
• Able to work in elevated areas with fall protection equipment.
• Varying levels of personal protective equipment will be required at various times. A physical examination will be performed by an occupational physician to ensure that you can wear personal protective equipment when needed.
