Job summary

Environmental Field Technician – Natural Resource & Land Management

Position Title: Field Technician

Location: South Florida (Travel Throughout Project Areas)

Employment Type: Part-Time

Reports To: Project Manager / Field Supervisor

Position Summary

The Field Technician performs a variety of field-based natural resource management, vegetation management, and environmental maintenance activities. This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain types while supporting land management, habitat restoration, vegetation control, and environmental improvement projects. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, dependable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable operating equipment, boats, and vehicles while working independently and as part of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Vegetation and Land Management

• Perform tree trimming, pruning, and vegetation maintenance activities.
• Apply herbicides in accordance with state regulations, label requirements, and company safety procedures.
• Conduct invasive plant control and vegetation management projects.
• Assist with habitat restoration, native plant installation, and ecological enhancement projects.
• Operate chainsaws, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, pole saws, mowers, and other vegetation management equipment.
• Remove debris, invasive vegetation, and unwanted growth from project sites.
• Assist with erosion control and site stabilization activities.

Field Operations

• Perform field inspections, site assessments, and data collection.
• Navigate and work in wetlands, uplands, canals, shorelines, and other environmentally sensitive areas.
• Assist with environmental monitoring and maintenance projects.
• Complete field reports, daily logs, and project documentation.
• Maintain compliance with environmental permits and project specifications.

Equipment and Vehicle Operations

• Operate trucks, trailers, UTVs, ATVs, and other field equipment.
• Launch, operate, and recover small boats safely.
• Tow and maneuver trailers carrying boats, equipment, and materials.
• Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
• Load, unload, and transport materials to project sites.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
• Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Report equipment deficiencies, hazards, and incidents promptly.

Desired Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in South Florida environmental conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to work on uneven terrain, in wet conditions, and around water.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work.
• Ability to travel to project sites throughout South Florida.

Preferred

• Experience with tree trimming and vegetation management.
• Experience applying herbicides and pesticides.
• Florida Restricted Use Pesticide License or ability to obtain one.
• Experience operating chainsaws and power equipment.
• Experience with habitat restoration or land management projects.
• Small boat operation experience.
• Experience towing and backing trailers.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs.
• Experience operating ATVs, UTVs, tractors, or skid steers.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred but not required.
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

• Knowledge of safe tree trimming and vegetation management practices.
• Ability to identify common South Florida vegetation and invasive species.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Walk long distances over rough terrain.
• Stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work in confined or difficult access areas.
• Work in hot, humid, wet, and occasionally adverse weather conditions.Ability to work from boats and near water bodies.

Work Location

The primary office is in North Miami. Workdays will generally start there if needed, or the employee may go straight to the field location. Locations generally range from Broward to the Florida Keys. Some travel may be required for multi-day projects.

Compensation

Part-Time: 20 hours per week minimum with the potential to transfer to full-time.

Compensation commensurate with experience.
