Job summary

Clean Harbors is hiring an entry-level Chemical Handler to join our safety-focused team in Alabama. Training begins with an in-person academy out of state, with travel, lodging, and per diem provided. Expect hands-on work handling waste, labeling, and ensuring compliance at labs and facilities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Prior chemical handling experience or chemistry knowledge preferred.
  • BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science a plus;
  • Willingness to complete a background check, drug test, and physical.

Responsibilities

  • Make waste pickups at labs as needed.
  • Package and label waste products and other materials.
  • Identify unknown chemicals when encountered.
  • Inspect staging, accumulating, and storage areas for housekeeping/compliance.
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal.
  • Ensure quality control of waste materials stored and shipped.
  • Complete required manifests and tracking paperwork.
  • Use CHOICE waste management software to manage waste programs.

Clean Harbors is looking for Chemical Handlers to join our safety conscious team!

This position requires attendance with an in-person Clean Harbors Academy out of State as part of your onboarding and training. Attendance is mandatory. Clean Harbors provides airfare, hotel accommodations, transportation to/from the Academy, breakfast and lunch, and a $38 nightly per diem. Academy training is paid at your normal rate. Candidates must be able to travel and attend the full 2 week Academy to be eligible for this position.

Responsibilities

InSite Chemists perform a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Making waste pickups at labs as needed
  • Packaging and labeling waste products and other materials
  • Identifying unknown chemicals when they are encountered
  • Performing inspections of staging, accumulating, and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for efficient and compliant disposal
  • Overall quality control ofwastematerials being stored and shipped
  • Completing required manifests and tracking paperwork
  • Utilizing CHOICE waste management software to efficiently and accurately manage waste programs.

This position is an entry level role, but many of our leaders started in this job! With safety as our top priority, you'll get the training and support to not only succeed at your job but advance your career.
