Job summary

Detroit Engineered Products is seeking an Environmental Engineer to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, prepare routine environmental reports, and coordinate with operations on waste management and permitting. You will engage with regulatory agencies, participate in audits, and lead training as required.

The role requires a Master’s degree in an environmental discipline and at least 2 years of related experience, with proficiency in MS Office and environmental reporting

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, permits and consent decrees.
  • Prepare and submit routine waste, TSCA, EPCRA reports (Biennial waste, Tier II, TRI Form R).
  • Coordinate with operations to define environmental roles in waste management and compliance.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications and modifications as required.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies for compliance understanding and requirements.
  • Participate in environmental audits and inspections.
  • Collect samples, complete chains of custody, and manage storage containers.
  • Provide environmental training as needed.
  • Perform and support compliance inspections.
  • Take on special assignments from supervisor as needed.

Description

Position Description In this role as an Environmental Engineer, your duties will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, consent decrees, and permits.
  • Preparing and submitting routine waste, TSCA, and EPCRA reports: Biennial hazardous waste report, Tier II Report, TRI Form R, etc.
  • Interfacing with operation departments to communicate and define the Environmental Engineer role in compliance efforts, such as central accumulation area, satellite accuulation area, and overall hazardous/non-hazardous waste management aspects.
  • Preparing and submitting permit applications and modifications, as required.
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies to ensure the understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Participating in environmental audits and inspections.
  • Collecting samples and reporting, including completion of chains of custody and identification/knowledge of appropriate storage containers.
  • Providing environmental training, as needed.
  • Performing and supporting compliance inspections.
  • Taking on special assignments or tasks assigned by the supervisor, as determined.
Skills Required
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in an environmental or STEM-related discipline including, but not limited to, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, and/or Civil Engineering and two (2) years of related work experience, or the overall equivalent experience;
  • Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary and diverse team;
  • Able to support in a fast-paced and large chemical manufacturing environment;
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and environmental industry-related reporting and monitoring software applications.
Skills Preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience in state environmental reporting, permit maintenance and compliance, and hazardous waste management and compliance monitoring;
  • Universal waste management and compliance monitoring;
  • Non-hazardous waste management and compliance monitoring;
  • Interaction with, and exposure to, VDEQ personnel and regulations;
  • CHMM certification;
  • EIT or EI certification, or PE licensure.
