Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a senior environmental engineer to join one of its offices and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.

Work may include managing multidisciplinary teams; preparing technical work plans and reports; coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments, including in support of property transactions (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures); designing, implementing, and coordinating activities associated with Phase II investigations, including investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; developing site management strategies, remedial design, and response action plans; and coordinating site remediation activities. Responsibilities will also include development of proposals, scopes of work, and budgets; communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel; and overall project management. Responsibilities may also include mentoring staff, building client relationships, and business development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines
  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship from Barr

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) guidance documents
  • Project management and leadership experience with complex projects
  • Experience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory personnel
  • Staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development experience

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, involving splitting time between a Barr office and remote work. Possible office locations include Bismarck, ND; Salt Lake City, UT; Duluth, Minneapolis, or Hibbing, MN; Reno, NV; Denver, CO; Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor, MI; or Jefferson City, MO.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary range is $100,000-$125,000 per year. Compensation varies based on experience, education, and skills. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses. Barr distributes profits to employees through bonuses and an ESOP.
