Job summary

International Paper’s Rome Mill seeks an Environmental Engineer to manage day-to-day regulatory tasks and long-term environmental programs. You will coordinate wastewater, solid waste, and chemical management activities, while guiding operations to stay compliant with federal and state rules.

You will lead EMS improvements, train teams on environmental practices, and serve as liaison with regulators, reporting to the Environmental Manager in the HSE group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental sciences, or related field required.
• Two plus years of environmental compliance/management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Water/wastewater laboratory supervision experience preferred.
• Experience with Federal environmental regulations; Georgia state regulations beneficial.
• Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet programs (Excel), databases, and SAP; PI ProcessBook, ParcView preferred.
• Certifications (will be required to get upon hiring if not already have): Wastewater Laboratory Analysts, Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, DOT, RCRA, hazmat training, EPA Smoke School.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory guidance to mill operations and management on a day-to-day basis; ensure compliance with IP expectations.
• Drive continuous improvements and develop systems to ensure environmental compliance and prevention.
• Complete required compliance reports for wastewater, solid waste, and chemical management (NetDMR, etc.).
• Support operating teams with regulatory concerns and provide compliance training to salaried and hourly staff.
• Implement EMS processes and oversee CO and regulatory reporting activities.
• Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and represent IP in inspections and audits.
