Job summary

Brice Engineering LLC seeks an Environmental Engineer III to join our Anchorage/Fairbanks, AK based team. You’ll collect, synthesize, and document data on environmental compliance tasks, supporting permits, waste and air regulations, and site investigations across multiple locations.

Preferred candidates will have a broad regulatory background, 7–15 years of experience, and strong leadership. This role may involve field supervision and mentorship within a multidisciplinary project group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or other engineering discipline.
• Seven to fifteen years of experience working on environmental projects.
• Broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle.
• Ability to pass a drug and background screening.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
• Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
• Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
• Review and document processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements.
• Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
• Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
• Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
• Support project planning and RFP responses.
• Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic.
• Provide technical QC of documentation.
• Lead author of technical documentation.
• Technical liaison for Clients.
• Lead a proactive safety culture.
• Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
• Perform other duties as directed.

What can you expect? As the Environmental Engineer III, you will work at the office in Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK, Post Falls, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, or Portland, ME and utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing, and documenting data relating to environmental compliance tasks. Task focus areas are related, but not limited, to stormwater, wastewater, air quality/emissions, oil storage and/or waste regulations, and assisting in the preparation and/or review of permits, pollution prevention plans, and regulatory-driven reporting. This position also includes providing field support as needed, which may include field site supervision. In addition, Environmental Engineer III will utilize their knowledge and experience with environmental site investigations and cleanups to support field efforts and document preparation and/or review. This position will support Project Managers and will include mentorship by various Project Managers and Technical Advisors. The expectation for this position is to be on the path to becoming a Project Manager or Technical Advisor.

How will you do it? This position will have supervisory responsibilities over junior staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology.
• This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
• Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
• Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
• Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.

Who is Brice Engineering looking for?

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or other engineering discipline. Seven to fifteen years of experience working on environmental projects required. A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy. Ability to pass a drug and background screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active research on emerging contaminants preferred.
• ADEC’s definition of a Qualified Professional is preferred for Alaska projects.
• 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate preferred.
• Familiar with federal and state regulations relating to stormwater, wastewater, air quality/emissions, oil storage, and waste in PE-licensed state(s).
• Familiarity with federal and state regulations relating to environmental restoration projects in same state(s) a plus.
• Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
• ArcGIS experience preferred.
• Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
• Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
