Job summary

Brice Engineering LLC seeks an Environmental Engineer III to join our team. You will collect, analyze, and document data for environmental compliance tasks across multiple sites including AK, ID, UT, ME, with field support as needed.

You will mentor junior staff, lead in technical documentation, and act as a liaison with clients while upholding a strong safety culture and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental engineering science and technology.
  • Understanding of RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA and related regulations.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and evaluate options.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups per regs and project direction.
  • Collaborate with staff in data collection, site assessment, and data evaluation to support project objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordination for written project documentation.
  • Review permits, plans, reports, licenses and other regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Lead in developing and reviewing environmental standards and procedures.
  • Prepare charts/graphs from data samples and summarize environmental relevance.
  • Lead field support and, when needed, supervise field sites.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for clients and mentor junior staff.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and safe work practices.

What can you expect?

As the Environmental Engineer III, you will work at the office in Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK, Post Falls, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, or Portland, ME and utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing, and documenting data relating to environmental compliance tasks. Task focus areas are related, but not limited, to stormwater, wastewater, air quality/emissions, oil storage and/or waste regulations, and assisting in the preparation and/or review of permits, pollution prevention plans, and regulatory-driven reporting. This position also includes providing field support as needed, which may include field site supervision. In addition, Environmental Engineer III will utilize their knowledge and experience with environmental site investigations and cleanups to support field efforts and document preparation and/or review. This position will support Project Managers and will include mentorship by various Project Managers and Technical Advisors. The expectation for this position is to be on the path to becoming a Project Manager or Technical Advisor.

How will you do it?
  • Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
  • Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives.
  • Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
  • Support project planning and RFP responses.
  • Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic.
  • Provides technical QC of documentation.
  • Is a lead author of technical documentation.
  • Is a technical liaison for Clients.
  • Lead a proactive safety culture.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position will have supervisory responsibilities over junior staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
