The position requires a dynamic individual with an engineering background, the ability to work flexible hours (but primarily Monday through Friday), and a willingness to travel periodically. The position will be extremely active and will include a variety of field assignments related to contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation, and office work, such as preparation of planning and reporting documents. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is required for higher-level position grades. The overall position requires an individual who is looking to advance their career and would like to be involved with a diversity of assignments including, but not limited to, sampling groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and air for environmental contaminants; gathering and recording environmental data; oversight of groundwater monitoring well installation; design and operation of remediation and treatment systems; use of global positioning systems; tabulating data; and preparing work plans and field reports.

This position requires contaminated sites experience.

Annual salary ranges per level:

Level II: $86,189 - $106,012

Level III: $99,720 - $123,652

Level Sr: $124,117 - $155,766

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducting contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and in accordance with work plans.
  • Traveling in aircraft (jets, small planes, and helicopters), motor vehicles, ATVs, and/or watercraft to perform fieldwork, site visits, or meetings
  • Field screening and sampling for contaminants and environmental parameters in a variety of media in accordance with standard operating procedures, guidance, and regulations.
  • Designing, installing, and operating remediation and treatment systems such as air sparge systems, soil vapor extraction systems, and water treatment systems.
  • Documenting field operations, including personnel onsite, equipment on site, weather, environmental data, and operational data, using photography, neat and legible handwritten fieldnotes and forms, and tablets. Communicate with project managers via phone, email, and daily reports.
  • Examining and inspecting work progress, equipment, and job sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are met.
  • Scheduling and overseeing subcontractors.
  • Adhering to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project managers.
  • Assisting or leading the preparation of proposals, planning documents, and reports.
  • Authoring and reviewing technical documents such as work plans and reports.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.
Level Specific Responsibilities
Level - II
  • Provide client and project assistance to program and project managers; adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on projects
  • Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise
  • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
  • Execute technical projects and prepare documents, perform peer review of project documents
  • Assist with task orders and project proposals
  • Provide technical mentoring
  • Communicate work schedules to program and project managers
  • 30% - 50% of the time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations
Level - III
  • Provide client and project assistance to program and project managers; adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on projects
  • Maintain 2 areas of technical expertise
  • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
  • Lead technical project execution and document preparation, and peer review project documents
  • Assist with task orders and project proposals
  • Provide project staffing and technical mentoring
  • Manage smaller projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
  • 20% - 40% of the time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations
Level - Senior
  • Provide client and project assistance to program and project managers; adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on projects
  • Maintain 2-3 areas of technical expertise
  • Lead technical project execution and document preparation, senior review of project documents
  • Prepare task orders and project proposals
  • Provide project staffing and technical mentoring
  • Manage projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
  • 10% - 25% of the time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations
Minimum Qualifications
All levels
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, with a preference for civil, environmental, chemical, or geotechnical
  • Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g., DoD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badges
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint Online
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing
Level - II
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as an MS may be substituted for work experience
Level - III
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as an MS may be substituted for work experience
Level - Senior
  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as an MS may be substituted for work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programs
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
  • CPR/1 st Aid/AED Certified
  • Experience working on projects for USACE, AFCEC, and other DoD/Federal clients
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands (including but not limited to)
