Job summary

CapstoneONE Search in Ludington, MI is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to lead programs for air emissions, wastewater, storm water, and waste management, ensuring regulatory alignment and accurate recordkeeping.

You will prepare filings, coordinate with Operations and Engineering, drive improvement projects, and support health and safety programs across the site, with relocation support for highly qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations (RCRA, CWA, CAA) and reporting
• Ability to read and interpret regulations and communicate requirements clearly
• Experience supporting health and safety programs alongside environmental compliance
• Familiarity with EHS management systems and environmental software a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead and support environmental compliance activities (air emissions, wastewater, storm water, chemical management, waste disposal, permitting, and reporting)
• Maintain accurate regulatory records, permits and compliance documentation
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports and filings (air emissions inventories, TRI, Tier II)
• Evaluate production and process changes for environmental impact
• Manage permit reviews/renewals and interface with regulatory agencies
• Conduct internal audits to identify gaps and drive corrective actions
• Oversee hazardous/non-hazardous waste streams and spill prevention
• Drive environmental improvement projects linked to sustainability and efficiency
• Partner with Operations, Engineering and Maintenance to promote a proactive EHS culture

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead and support environmental compliance activities related to air emissions, wastewater, storm water, chemical management, waste disposal, recycling, permitting, and regulatory reporting
• Maintain accurate environmental records, reports, permits, and compliance documentation in accordance with federal, state, local, and internal requirements
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports and filings, including air emissions inventories, hazardous waste manifests, SPCC/SWPPP plans, TRI, and Tier II reporting
• Evaluate production, process, equipment, and operational changes to ensure environmental requirements are maintained or improved
• Lead environmental permit reviews and renewals, interface with regulatory agencies, and support timely completion of required filings and inspections
• Conduct internal environmental audits and inspections to identify compliance gaps and drive corrective actions
• Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, including proper storage, labeling, manifesting, and disposal
• Oversee wastewater pretreatment, storm water management, and spill prevention/response programs
• Drive environmental improvement projects tied to sustainability, waste reduction, water/energy usage reduction, emissions reduction, risk mitigation, and operational performance
• Support broader health and safety programs, including training, employee engagement, hazard reduction, contractor management, and alignment with site EHS goals
• Track and report environmental KPIs and metrics to plant and corporate leadership
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and plant leadership to promote accountability, communication, and a proactive EHS culture across the facility

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
• 2+ years of environmental experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or similar operating environment
• Experience supporting health and safety programs in addition to environmental compliance activities
• Working knowledge of environmental compliance programs, permitting, reporting, recordkeeping, and regulatory requirements (RCRA, CWA, CAA); TRI and Tier II experience preferred
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations, with strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional leadership skills
• Familiarity with EHS management systems and environmental management software a plus
