Job summary

Valero Energy in Wilmington are seeking an Environmental Engineer to support regulatory compliance, permitting, and reporting. The role ensures spill/emission events, records, and reporting comply with applicable regulations and supports permitting tasks as needed.

The candidate will coordinate with engineering and operations, prepare necessary reports, and maintain documentation. Requires a bachelor’s in engineering and 2 years of related refinery experience, with on-site work at the Wilmington

Job description

Overview

Environmental Engineer – 260019D at Valero. This role provides support for ongoing environmental regulatory compliance, ensuring control, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements are satisfied. It supports environmental compliance and permitting projects as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure assigned Spill/Upset/Emission Event/Reporting requirements are satisfied in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure assigned federal, state, or other government reporting obligations (e.g., SARA 313 reports; Emission Inventories; NSPS Reports; MACT Reports; Annual Waste Summary Reports; LDAR reports) are completed in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Ensure operational records necessary to demonstrate compliance with assigned environmental regulations/programs are acquired, recorded, and retained.
  • Ensure emission control equipment inspections required by environmental regulations and programs are properly satisfied, recorded, and reported to state, federal, or other government authorities, as applicable.
  • Assist with regulatory permitting tasks, as needed.
  • Ensure on-going compliance with assigned environmental regulations and permits.
  • Generate reports/records to support demonstration of compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering and operations personnel to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits is continually achieved.
  • Read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation.
  • Abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.
  • Provide thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
  • Accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes.
  • Cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage of department responsibilities.
  • Work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.
  • Multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements.
  • Be skilled in using Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel).
Qualifications
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, or related Science is required.
  • 2 years of environmental engineering, or related refinery engineering experience required.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $107,700 to $148,000 and represents Valero’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including the individual’s qualifications and experience. The position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay. We offer benefits including competitive pay, a 401(k) plan with company match, pension, and comprehensive healthcare and wellness programs. Benefits described above are highlights only and may vary by eligibility and location.

All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). It is Valero’s policy that employees wear this card at all times while working at the refinery. Please review eligibility criteria with TSA as part of the process.
