Reviews of laboratory-reported data will be conducted following EPA’s National Functional Guidelines or other procedures, as directed. Duties will include preparing written reports and editing electronic data in the cloud or through electronic file transfer to incorporate validation qualifiers, as well as reviewing the work of others doing similar work (i.e., technical or peer review). The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team of chemists and technicians.

The position primarily allows for remote work, but there is an opportunity for the selected candidate to attend in-person team activities and meetings at the client facility in Fort Meade, Maryland once a week, if they are within reasonable traveling distance and express interest in doing so.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, or equivalent years (4 years) of chemistry lab experience

  • 4+ years of experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis using CLP, SW-846 and other EPA methods.

  • Ability to work remotely (i.e., experience using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, maintaining joint calendars, schedules, or files).

  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat to create and edit documents/files.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America, per federal contract requirements.

  • MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property, per contract requirements.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in non-routine analyses such as PFAS by EPA methods, explosives, or radionuclides is desirable.

  • Laboratory experience with EPA methods and laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, LCMS, GC, GC/MS, GC/HRMS, ICP/AES, ICP/MS, IC, CVAA, etc. for the analysis of organic and inorganic constituents and contaminants is preferred.

  • Experience in validating data according to the EPA National Functional Guidelines and use of the SMO Portal EXES website and software is preferred.

  • Experience writing, reviewing, or implementing quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), sampling and analysis plans (SAPs), and related documents in accordance with EPA QA/R-5: EPA Requirements for Quality Assurance Project Plans; EPA QA/G-9: Guidance for the Data Quality Assessment: Practical Methods for Data Analysis; EPA QA/G-4HW: Guidance for the Data Quality Objectives Process for Hazardous Waste Sites; and other EPA quality assurance guidance is desirable.

  • Experience reviewing/validating data from other methods/programs is desirable.
