Introduction

The Wildlife Section oversees hunting, hunting seasons and other game-related programs, as well as key wildlife and habitat conservation and education initiatives like the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program and the Delaware Shorebird Monitoring Project, among many others.

Summary Statement

These two positions with Delaware's Species Conservation and Research Program will assist the State Nongame Mammal Biologist with the Delaware Bat Program and Delmarva Fox Squirrel Conservation Project. Primary responsibilities include deploying bat acoustic detectors, running mobile acoustic transect surveys, analyzing bat calls, and resolving bat-human conflicts, as well as conducting radio telemetry of translocated squirrels, live trapping, deploying and monitoring camera traps, and reviewing camera trap photos. These positions will also assist with equipment inventory and maintenance, volunteer, landowner and public communication, Excel, Access, and ArcGIS database management, technical report preparation, and other wildlife research projects. Please note that housing is not available.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
  • Collects field samples and data.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS For Environmental Control Technician II

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  • Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  • Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
