Job summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a civil/environmental engineer with an associate’s degree equivalent and at least two years of related experience. A valid driver’s license and compliant driving record are required, with certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector to be obtained within 6 months of DEQ coursework completion.

Employees may be asked to work overtime to meet department needs or city emergencies.

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards ; Certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector within 6 months of completing the DEQ courses.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
