Job summary

Harris County Department of Education Facilities in Houston, TX seeks a Construction & Enviromental Specialist to support environmental programs, audits, fire inspections, and safety compliance. You will assist with permits, records, asbestos-related tasks, and construction project oversight.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, two years of maintenance/construction experience, and familiarity with building codes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Asbestos Program Management certification preferred.
• Two years of general maintenance or construction experience.
• Ability to read and understand building specifications and schematics.
• Knowledge of federal/state codes and laws.
• Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate fire and general building inspections of HCDE buildings, centers, and campuses.
• Facilitate the Asbestos awareness program.
• Assist the Director of Construction in budget planning and special project cost estimate acquisitions.
• Assist Construction Director with observations and inspections at ongoing construction projects.
• Maintain construction files.
• Prepare bid documents, contracts, subcontracts, and requisitions for construction projects.
• Facilitate playground inspections.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
