Job summary

The State of Georgia is hiring an Environmental Compliance Specialist 1 within the Department of Natural Resources. This role supports the Water Protection Branch by evaluating compliance with environmental laws and conducting inspections and enforcement actions as needed.

Under supervision, you will collect samples, review permit applications, and provide technical assistance and education to facilities. Field work and occasional overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples in accordance with established procedures.
• Investigate complaints and provide environmental education and technical assistance.
• Perform inspections, interviews, and technical reviews; make recommendations for enforcement actions as needed.
• Review permit applications against permit requirements and regulations.
• Draft correspondence and/or permits in accordance with rules and procedures.
