Job summary

METRO is seeking an Environmental Professional to support environmental programs and regulatory compliance for Houston-area operations.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Environmental Sciences or related field and at least five years of environmental compliance experience. You will assist in policy development, reporting, inspections, and training, ensuring adherence to all regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental compliance or environmental management.
• Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations (local, state, and federal).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and database systems.
• Certifications as REM or CHMM are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Environmental Services Manager in driving programs and projects tied to the agency’s environmental programs and compliance.
• Evaluate environmental management plans and contribute to annual reports for METRO management.
• Advise METRO on environmental regulations and support compliance through program administration, inspections and corrective action tracking.
• Implement and administer agency-wide environmental policies, procedures, and programs per regulatory requirements.
• Draft, review and update environmental plans, procedures, and policies, partnering with departments for implementation and compliance.
• Coordinate and prepare environmental reports and submit to regulatory agencies as required.
• Liaise with external regulatory agencies and support regulatory discussions and resolutions.
• Develop and deliver environmental compliance training and support EMS implementation.
• Monitor incidents, prepare documentation, and track corrective actions for management review.
• Administer compliance activities related to USTs, stormwater permits, and air compliance under the Texas Clean Air Act.
• Administer hazardous, universal, and regulated waste compliance programs and verify waste streams via inspections and documentation review.
• Participate in internal and external committees to promote compliance and awareness.
