Job summary

The Northwest District of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Tallahassee seeks an Environmental Specialist II to perform inspections, data reviews and compliance assessments across ERP program areas such as NPDES stormwater, air, potable water and waste.

The position conducts field visits, reviews permits, prepares documentation, provides compliance assistance, and, when needed, supports enforcement actions and hearings while maintaining records in the designated databases.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of physical or natural sciences concepts and analytical techniques.
• Ability to understand and apply state/federal environmental rules and procedures.
• Capable of collecting, evaluating, and interpreting scientific data.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts inspections, site visits and records reviews for compliance.
• Provides compliance assistance and follows up to help facilities return to compliance.
• Responds to complaints, investigates and may lead enforcement meetings.
• Reviews permit applications and draft permits to ensure regulatory requirements.
• Drafts documents and enters data into designated databases.
