Job summary

Town of Gilbert seeks an Environmental Compliance Inspection Technician to inspect facilities for air, water, and hazardous materials compliance and to develop enforcement actions when needed.

You will analyze proposed regulations and craft clear guidance for Town departments, consultants, and the public. This role balances field inspections with strong report writing and outreach responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or a two-year technical certificate (Bachelor's degree in environmental education, environmental science, or closely related field highly desirable).
• 2 years of experience in environmental programs, including compliance assessment and implementation of environmental public education programs.
• Must possess or obtain MS4 Compliance & Code Enforcement Certified Inspector certification within 6 months of hire.
• Valid Arizona Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of public and private facilities across Gilbert to evaluate air quality, storm water, and hazardous materials compliance—drafting enforcement actions when needed.
• Analyze new and proposed environmental regulations to determine their impact on Town operations and provide departments with clear compliance direction.
• Develop and review compliance programs, plans, and corrective action strategies to keep Town operations aligned with regulatory requirements.
• Provide oversight and direction for consultant field activities, and represent the Town at meetings with regulatory agencies and regional cooperative efforts.
• Deliver public outreach, education, and training programs to help Town personnel and the community understand environmental compliance requirements.
