Job summary

Optimus-Steel-LL is seeking an Environmental Specialist to coordinate the EMS implementation and environmental compliance across the mill, working with the Environmental Manager and site superintendents.

The role covers regulatory monitoring, sampling, equipment maintenance, and coordination of radiation controls, waste shipments, air permits, and environmental action plans to support policy adherence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field
• Basic understanding of environmental regulations and laws
• MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook experience; willingness to learn new software/hardware
• Adapt or comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable working with people at diverse plant levels and with government agencies
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and work outside in all weather
• Self-starter with ability to meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities
• Clear verbal and written communication
• Ability to pass drug, driving and background screening

Responsibilities

• Keep up to date with environmental regulations and training for ongoing compliance
• Collect samples and maintain data for permits and reports (water, wastewater, storm water, groundwater)
• Maintain environmental equipment and coordinate with staff and contractors
• Coordinate Radiation Control Program activities and respond to alarms
• Ensure EMS and Environmental Policy adherence and continuous improvement
• Assist with regulatory prevention and release response requirements
• Coordinate waste disposal/recycling shipments and DOT paperwork
• Assist Air permits and emissions monitoring activities
• Support development of environmental action plans and KPIs
• Promote safety culture and environmental hazard corrections
• Assist wildlife management on site
