Job summary

Ahlstrom is seeking an Environmental Co-op for the Rhinelander, Wisconsin plant for the 2027 Spring semester and summer (January - August). You will gain hands-on experience in environmental compliance, data collection and analysis, field investigations and process improvement while supporting day-to-day operations in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

The role offers opportunities to work on air, water and waste programs, assist with permits and reporting, and contribute to sustainability

Qualifications

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Enrolled in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Living in or willing to relocate to the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area from January - August 2027.
• Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position.
• Strong desire to work within a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
• Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Follow manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies to meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements for each grade of paper.
• Support environmental inspections, audits, site assessments and day-to-day operations.
• Assist with monitoring programs related to air, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste, hazardous materials, and other environmental areas.
• Assist with preparation and maintenance of environmental permits, reports, plans, and compliance documentation.
• Support energy, sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives.
• Assist with environmental sampling, fieldwork, data collection and project planning as needed.
• Assist WWTP plant operators and maintenance with day-to-day wastewater treatment activities.
• Perform or assist with basic water quality testing and laboratory analyses.
• Updating standard operating procedures as needed
