Job summary

PennEnvironment is hiring a Clean Water and Conservation Associate to build public support for our campaigns in Pennsylvania. The role focuses on educating the public, forming coalitions, engaging media, organizing events, and coordinating volunteers across the state.

Ideal candidates are entry-level with a passion for the environment, strong writing and public speaking skills, and a willingness to travel; background in organizing campus or community groups is a plus.

Qualifications

• Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply and will receive training on advocacy and organizing skills.
• Candidates must be able to travel regularly and work evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Educate and mobilize public support: educate the public on issues and how to get involved.
• Build coalitions: reach out to diverse organizations and constituencies to show support for campaign goals.
• Earn traditional and social media attention: organize news conferences and write opinion pieces; grow a social media following.
• Organize events and work with volunteers: webinars, community events, public meetings, recruit volunteers and staff.
• Lobby elected officials: meet with city, state and federal decision makers to advocate campaign goals.
• Research and write reports: catalog and analyze data to influence public debate.
• Recruit new people: recruit volunteers, interns and full-time staff.
• Run a grassroots campaign office in summer: meet fundraising goals and manage a team; possible office relocation.
