The Public Drinking Water Program is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join our Capacity Development Team.
The Capacity Development Specialist will work with a team of dedicated staff that focus on engaging with and supporting disadvantaged water systems in Vermont. The Capacity Development Program has a comprehensive strategy that supports water system officials by providing direct technical, managerial, and financial assistance, outreach, and education, as well as managing grants and contracts that support capacity building initiatives.

The Agency of Natural Resources and Drinking Water Program has an employee-friendly telework policy, requiring staff (once trained) to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from their productive home offices. The position is limited service for 5 years, with the potential to become long-term, and when considering salary, remember that benefits are worth ~30% of your total compensation.

This position, Environmental Analyst V - Drinking Water Capacity Development Specialist - Limited Service (Job Requisition #46863), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
OR
Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
OR
Five (5) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.
