Job summary

State of Florida's Environmental Administrator - SES role oversees the Florida Forest Service’s Nursery and Seed Orchards, supervising reforestation programs and directing staff. The incumbent guides tree-improvement efforts, budget, and compliance with division policies.

Responsibilities include coordinating with CFGRP and UF partners, planning seed collection, and ensuring seedling production quality across nurseries. Travel may be required, and a valid driver license is necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with nine (9) years of professional experience in environmental protection, one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering.
  • Four (4) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering and five (5) years of professional experience as described above; or
  • Master’s degree (6 years) in one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering and four (4) years of professional experience as described above; or
  • Doctorate (8 years) from an accredited college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture or engineering and two (2) years of professional experience as described above.
  • Requires possession of a valid class E driver license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervision of the FFS reforestation program and nursery operations, including Andrews Nursery and seed orchards planning.
  • Communicate, train, and direct subordinates; perform performance appraisals and leave approvals.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and equipment for assigned programs in an accountable manner.
  • Administer and supervise seed production at Andrews Nursery; ensure seedling health and apply new production methods.
  • Coordinate with CFGRP and UF for seed orchard projects and future cone collections.
