Job summary

Epic Games is seeking an Environment Outsource Lead to supervise content from outsource partners. The role combines supervisory duties with hands-on art responsibilities, emphasizing environment art and game pipelines. Strong communication with vendors and a solid art background are essential.

The ideal candidate will manage asset blockouts, documentation, and asset packaging for external artists, ensuring alignment with technical constraints and engine requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping AAA titles across multiple platforms.
• Experience shipping production assets for games in Environment discipline.
• Strong understanding of Unreal Engine 5, Substance Painter, Marmoset, Perforce, and 3D modeling packages.
• Familiarity with emerging art production workflows and willingness to explore new approaches.
• Must be highly organized, self-driven, and a great team player.

Responsibilities

• Work with Lead/Director to establish visual direction for outsourcing vendors.
• Create documentation, video references, and asset production examples for vendors.
• Provide clear feedback to outsourcing partners and escalate if goals aren’t met to leadership.
• Coordinate cross-discipline with artists and designers to understand props needs and goals.
• Make fixes to keep assets consistent and game-ready as handed off to vendors.
• Provide prototype meshes with correct scale, pivot placement, and technical constraints (vert count, materials, PBR).
• Explore new tools/workflows to improve efficiency, quality, and consistency in outsourced environment art production.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to integrate new technologies into art pipelines.
