Job summary

Believer Company is seeking an Environment Art Lead to create final-quality environment assets in Unreal Engine 5 and lead a small team to translate the art director's vision into cohesive, high-quality game environments.

The role emphasizes hands-on environment art and guidance, with a focus on stylized direction, collaboration across disciplines, and staying current with industry trends, including generative AI tools.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in environment art creation for games.
• Portfolio showing stylized environments with strong composition, material read, and lighting; in-engine work preferred.
• Deep Unreal Engine experience: level building, material editor, Lumen/Nanite era lighting and performance considerations.
• Proficiency in Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, and Maya/Blender/3DS Max.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working remotely across time zones.
• Small-team experience with multi-hat roles and scope decisions.

Responsibilities

• Create final-quality environment assets and scenes in Unreal Engine 5—from blockout to polish.
• Collaborate with Game Art Director and leads to align with visual direction.
• Provide regular style guidance and feedback to environment artists to maintain coherence.
• Represent environment art in planning: scope work, flag risks, balance ambition vs delivery.
• Manage the Environment Art team and coordinate with outsourcing or freelance partners.
