Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an Environmental Services Worker to perform cleaning in patient rooms, nursing units, offices and clinical areas to maintain a clean, sanitary environment in line with established standards.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, replenishing supplies, and observing safety procedures. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with English proficiency and ability to work rotating weekends and holidays.

  • Empties trash and maintains liners; cleans containers outside.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to disposal area.
  • Follow safety procedures and report hazards to Supervisor.
  • Note repairs and report to Supervisor.
  • Clean patient rooms, lobbies, corridors, offices, and restrooms.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and maintain it in safe condition.
  • Attend Compliance Program and HIPAA Privacy training.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Job description

Mon - Fri, 7am - 3:30pm, with rotating weekend and holiday.

Position Summary

Under regular supervision performs cleaning and other environmental services for all internal areas of system facilities including Patient Rooms, Nursing Units, Offices, Clinical Areas, Waiting Area, Lobbies, Lounges, Restrooms, Corridors, Elevators and Stairwells to ensure a clean, neat and sanitary environment, according to established performance standards. The following statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not an exhaustive list of all job duties.

Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
  • Replenishes or replaces expendable supplies such as soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels timely.
  • Empties trash containers in assigned areas, replaces liners, cleans outside of containers with damp cloth.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  • Observes safety precautions and established safety procedures for performing work with equipment and cleaning supplies. Reports safety hazards and needed repairs to Supervisor.
  • Notes any required repairs (painting, plumbing, carpentry, or electrical) and reports needed repairs to Supervisor.
  • Cleans patient rooms, lobbies, hallways, offices, work areas and other internal facilities including restrooms and other areas in detail.
  • Uses mechanical equipment such as buffers, automatic scrubbers, pressure washers, vacuums, shampooer, extractor, burnisher and steam machine, baseboard machine and restroom cleaning machine, operating them properly and maintaining them in safe working order.
  • Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including HIPAA Privacy training.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Work Experience and Education
  • High School Diploma / GED or one (1) year facility housekeeping experience required.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to write legible and detailed information and sign reports.
  • Competence in oral and written English.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, physicians and the public.
  • Maintain professional manner and strict patient confidentiality.
  • Operate a variety of high-powered cleaning equipment and electronic bed tracking systems.
  • Withstand frequent exposure to water and disinfectant chemicals.
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $17.00 - $24.60

Other Compensation (if applicable): Hourly Shift Differential
