Qualifications

  • 0-5 years of experience in water/wastewater systems design required.
  • EI certification or willingness to take the FE exam within 6 months.

Job description

WHKS has an opportunity for an Entry Level Water/Wastewater Engineer to use their knowledge and skills in the design of water/wastewater projects in Iowa and surrounding states. The successful candidate will be technically proficient, personable, and value a collaborative work environment focused on creating solutions for our clients and communities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform modeling and design of wastewater treatment and collection, and water treatment, storage, and distribution systems
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and other contract documents for the design of water/wastewater systems including distribution and collection mains, lift stations, siphons, and treatment facilities
  • Prepare design calculations and technical reports
  • Research issues related to wastewater that impact individual projects
  • Observe construction projects related to collection, distribution, storage, and treatment systems
  • Coordinate and collaborate with WHKS staff to solve challenging engineering tasks

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 0 – 5 years of experience in water/wastewater systems design
  • EI is required or willing to take FE exam within 6 months
  • Valid driver’s license

Desirable Qualifications (candidate need not have all to apply):

  • Experience or education in hydraulics and fluid mechanics
  • Experience or education in chemistry and process design for water and/or wastewater treatment facilities
  • Experience in field work and/or construction observation
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • SewerGEMS or InfoSWMM modeling
  • AutoCAD mechanical drafting, AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation
