Job summary

The City of Watsonville is seeking a Water Services Technician I to perform semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction on the municipal water distribution system. You will install, repair, and maintain pipelines, hydrants, valves, and related devices on City streets, often working with crews on nearby drains and sewers.

Under supervision, you’ll learn skilled tasks, operate heavy equipment, read plans, and follow safety procedures.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in underground construction or water-related fields.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
• Possession of or ability to obtain within 12 months a Grade-1 State Water Resource Control Board Water Distribution Operator Certification.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, modify or fabricate duties for City pipelines per City specifications.
• Maintain streets, sewers, hydrants, valves and related water distribution assets.
• Operate trucks and heavy equipment and use various hand/power tools.
• Read blueprints, maps and MSDS; set up safety zones and traffic control.
• Maintain records and prepare reports of assignments.
