Job summary

The City of Hammond is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to perform a variety of plant operation tasks under supervision. The role supports the wastewater treatment process and ensures safe, compliant operations at the treatment facility.

Responsibilities include recording daily plant operations, collecting samples, performing routine maintenance, and cooperating with contractors and staff. The position requires a high school diploma and the ability to obtain state certifications within the

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safe work practices.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Perform unskilled tasks in a variety of plant operation activities.
• Acquire the knowledge and ability to perform skilled tasks.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily records on plant operations.
• Take wastewater sample collections.
• Perform maintenance on equipment.
• Repair any broken lines or pipes as needed in plant operations.
• Repair, replace, and change zones on wastewater discharge pipes in swamp.
• Work on chlorine cylinder system for wastewater treatment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on pumps & blowers at sewer plant.
• Perform preventive maintenance on sewer motors & pumps in sewer pond.
• Help perform sanitary survey for plant.
• Cutting grass & weed eating at given location (fields, swamp, plant).
• Work with contractors working on plants.
• Repair/ replace/ change zones on wastewater discharge pipe at swamp.
• Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
• Be on call for plant operations.
• Work on weekends/holidays.
