MCAA seeks an entry-level VDC Operator to join our mechanical construction team. The role supports coordination, modeling, and documentation of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems for commercial and industrial projects.

Responsibilities

Entry-Level VDC Operator (Mechanical Contractor)

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level VDC (Virtual Design & Construction) Operator to join our mechanical construction team. This role supports the coordination, modeling, and documentation of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems for commercial and industrial construction projects. The VDC Operator will work closely with project managers, BIM/VDC coordinators, detailers, field teams, and other trades to help deliver accurate 3D models and construction documents. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to begin a career in construction technology, BIM, or mechanical systems coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and updating 3D BIM models for mechanical systems including piping, and plumbing.
• Support clash detection and coordination efforts with other trades using VDC/BIM software.
• Produce installation drawings, spool sheets, shop drawings, and layout documentation for field use.
• Maintain model accuracy based on project specifications, contract documents, and field conditions.
• Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and coordinators to resolve design and coordination issues, through RFI’s or other means.
• Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams, subcontractors, engineers, and general contractors.
• Organize and maintain project files, drawings, and model documentation.
• Assist with field layout support using total station or layout technology when needed.
• Learn and follow company BIM/VDC standards and workflows.
• Support as-built modeling and project closeout documentation.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic understanding of construction drawings and mechanical systems with desire to understand better.
• Familiarity with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or similar drafting/modeling software.
• Strong computer and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced construction environment.

Preferred

• Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in drafting, construction technology, engineering technology, BIM, or related field preferred.
• Internship or classroom experience with BIM/VDC coordination.
• Exposure to Navisworks or clash detection software.
• Understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and/or piping systems.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
