Job summary

CCBC is seeking an Utility Engineer I (HVAC Tech) to operate, maintain, and repair essential campus heating, cooling, and electrical systems on our Essex Campus. The role is full-time, first shift (Tue–Sat, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM) and involves hands-on work with boilers, chillers, HVAC units, and BAS.

Ideal candidates hold a Journeyman HVAC or Second Grade Stationary Engineer license and have experience with energy management and electrical maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Advanced degree, and CFCCertification preferred.
  • Formal training in the operation and maintenance of HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible maintenance experience in building mechanical systems, heating and cooling systems, pneumatic and digital controls and energy management, including experience with commercial boilers (min. 250 HP) and large chillers (min. 250 tons).
  • Journeyman HVAC License or Second Grade Stationary Engineers License required. First Grade preferred.
  • Flexibility and ability to change shift when requested.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record of less than five (5) points.
  • Ability to participate in bloodborne pathogens training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed waiver.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains all mechanical and electrical equipment of the college, including chillers and boilers.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces hot water, condenser, and chilled water systems, including pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and related controls.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces air-moving, heating, cooling, humidification, and filtering equipment and systems such as fans, heat pumps, fan coil units, rooftop air conditioning systems, electronic and pneumatic thermostats, humidistats, duct stats and volume controls.
  • Records equipment operating parameters; maintains operating logs and reports as required.
  • Operates equipment with college schedules through the building automation system.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, adjusts, calibrates and repairs electric, electronic, and pneumatic control system components.
  • Assigns analog and digital points, start/stop, status, and mode control through building automation/energy management system.
