Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. in Massachusetts seeks an Entry Level Transportation Engineer - 2027 Graduate to join our Transportation Systems Group.

Based out of our Boston area office, you'll contribute to planning, design, and construction support for traffic signals, ITS, and smart transportation projects. You will work with a team to develop design plans, create traffic signal plans for state and municipal clients, and assist with TTCP, fieldwork, reports, and documentation.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation or Electrical Engineering.
• 0-1 year of professional experience in transportation equipment and/or communications systems preferred.
• Interest in cross-disciplinary work with diverse assignments.
• EIT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work within a team to develop design plans and specifications for Transportation Systems and related infrastructure.
• Develop Traffic Signal Design Plans and Specifications for state, municipal and private clients.
• Develop TTCPs including traditional and smart work zones and construction phase service planning.
• Prepare Systems Engineering documents following FHWA processes.
• Design ITS equipment and communications infrastructure including fiber, CCTV, DMS, and sensor technologies.
• Perform engineering field work and write technical reports and memoranda.

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Transportation Designer - 2027 Graduate to join our growing Transportation Systems Group in New England. This role is based out of our Watertown, MA office.

Project work will focus on the planning, design and construction support of traditional and advanced traffic signals, connected vehicle and smart technology initiatives, advanced transportation technology infrastructure and traditional and smart work zone design and implementations.

Responsibilities

• Work within a team of professionals to develop design plans and specifications for a variety of Transportation Systems and communication equipment & infrastructure
• Development of Traffic Signal Design Plans and Specifications for state, municipal and private clients
• Development of Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP), including traditional and smart work zones and construction phase service planning for state, municipal and private clients
• Systems Engineering documents for transportation technology projects following the FHWA Systems Engineering Process
• Design of ITS equipment and communications infrastructure including fiber optic and wireless technologies, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Wrong Way Vehicle Detection Systems, and various sensor technologies
• Perform engineering field work as needed (various field equipment testing, utility and infrastructure verification, taking measurements and pictures at field sites, etc.)
• Writing technical reports and memorandum

Skills and Attributes

• Ability/willingness to work outdoors on occasion on highway job sites and uneven terrain

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation or Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 0-1 year of professional experience with a desire to learn the planning, design, and construction of transportation equipment and/or communications systems (cellular, fiber, wireless) preferred
• Interest in working across multiple disciplines concurrently with a diversity of assignments
• Experience developing civil design and construction documents - preference given for state DOT experience, a plus
• EIT preferred

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Massachusetts, is $86,000 to $88,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package.
