Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking an entry-level Trades Helper to support installation, repair, and maintenance across city properties and facilities. You will learn across plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and other trades under supervision, with on-the-job training or apprenticeships.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Dallas County High School or Dallas College vocational certification program preferred.
• Six months of experience in general building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, construction, or related trades.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License; ability to obtain OSHA safety certifications.
• Some positions may require a Class A or B CDL during probation.
• Must be 16 years or older; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of city properties across sites.
• Support troubleshooting and document issues and work logs.
• Demonstrate safe work practices and follow repair procedures.
• Learn blueprints, diagrams, and system guides to locate equipment.
• Perform additional tasks to support trades crews.
