Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Traction Power Engineer in Philadelphia, PA, to join our team for a hands-on role in design and analysis of DC/AC traction power systems for rail, LRT, or other electrified networks.

You will assist senior engineers with substation and OCS design, create schematics, perform power calculations, and prepare reports while gaining practical experience in a collaborative, hybrid-work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in Traction Power projects preferred.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) license preferred.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), and third rail systems.
• Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
• Perform calculations related to voltage drop, current flow, and power system performance.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
• Conduct field inspections and site visits to gather data and observe construction activities.
• Assist in the testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.
• Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., NESC, IEEE).
• Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
