Qualifications

• Law school graduates or 3Ls who can take the next bar exam.
• Active membership in the New York State Bar.
• Experience as an appellate attorney preferred; or a combination of training and experience.
• Degree equivalency considerations per accrediting rules.

Responsibilities

• Read transcripts and draft transcript summaries for appeals.
• Research legal issues and select meritorious issues for briefs.
• Draft appellant and responding briefs in criminal and Family Court appeals.
• File stays, post-conviction motions, and other necessary motions.
• Communicate with clients and counsel, including in-custody discussions.
• Assemble the record on appeal and prepare appendices for filing.
• Meet with unit Chief Attorney to discuss case status and developments.
